Gran Via is one of the most important streets in Madrid. Gran Via construction started in 1910 in Art Nouveau and Art Deco style. The street hosts many historical buildings on it.
For example, at the intersection with Alcala Street is the Metropolis building, one of the most photographed buildings in the city. The building was built in the Neo-Renaissance style in 1911. Its height of 45 meters was the highest building for the first 10 years.
The next popular building on the Gran Via is Telefonika, which reaches a height of almost 90 meters. Telefonika was the first skyscraper in Europe and the tallest building on the entire continent. The building is designed in the Art Deco style.
One of the most representative buildings on the Gran Via, is Capitol , it was constructed in the early 1930s. The shape of the Capitol is resembles the prow of a ship.
I recommend walking along the Gran Via from the beginning of the street to the end, seeing the beautiful architecture of the buildings, having a bite to eat or shopping.
