Tbilisi panoramic sunset view

Last summer I spent a week in Tbilisi, Georgia. It is an amazing city with great architecture, beautiful views and a lot of churches. I discovered that it’s very simple to sketch there. From every corner you can find a good view, you only need to choose which you like. I want to share with you my little sketch adventure with 5 places I recommend you to sketch in Tbilisi:

Sulfur Baths

The history of the sulfur baths in Tbilisi, deeply rooted in the city’s heritage. Legend has it that the healing properties of the sulfur-rich waters were discovered by King Vakhtang I Gorgasali in the 5th century AD. The architecture of the sulfur baths in Tbilisi is a unique blend of traditional Georgian design and influences from various historical periods like Persian, Byzantine, and Ottoman styles. I like the round shapes of the baths and the ability to make great compositions. Also recommend you to visit the baths from inside.

Bridge of Peace

Try to sketch the modern elegance of the Bridge of Peace. Spanning gracefully over the Kura River, this architectural marvel is a symbol of Tbilisi’s transformation into a contemporary metropolis. Pay attention to the bridge’s distinctive design featuring a sleek, glass canopy, and the reflections dancing on the water below. Capture the harmony between tradition and innovation as the bridge connects the old and new districts of the city.

Metekhi Virgin Mary Assumption Church

Dating back to the 5th century, the church stands on a rocky cliff overlooking the Kura River, built by King Vakhtang I Gorgasali, the founder of Tbilisi. The church has undergone several renovations and reconstructions over the centuries, reflecting the architectural influences of different periods, including Byzantine, Georgian, and Persian styles. It was a pleasure to sketch this church.

Public Service Hall

This futuristic complex redefines the concept of public service with its innovative design and welcoming atmosphere. You can capture the interplay of light and shadow as it dances across the sleek glass façade, reflecting the dynamic energy of the city. Explore the geometric shapes and patterns that adorn the building’s exterior, showcasing Tbilisi’s commitment to progress and accessibility.

Building on Nikoloz Baratashvili Avenue 12

I saw this building while I was near Kura river bank. I liked its interesting architecture, round cupola, and the clock. The building combines different architectural styles like baroque, modern, oriental, and classic. So I decided to capture it in my sketchbook. The better view you can get from the bridge, but from the Kura river bank you can also see it pretty good.

Tbilisi is the city of sketches where there are a lot of great views, beautiful architecture, and rich history. You can get a lot of sketches from Tbilisi easily. Have a wonderful journey!
