Children's art materials

Who says art supplies are just for kids? Sometimes the most playful tools spark the most creative results! I decided to explore my collection of children’s art materials, and they surprised me with their expressiveness and versatility. Btw, if you are looking for perfect pastels, I have a new post about my pastel collection.

Rainbow Pencils by Koh-I-Noor

These magical pencils instantly became my favorite for sketching sculptures. I used them during my visit to the Borghese Gallery in Rome, capturing David and the Three Graces. Their multicolored leads bring vibrant life to stone figures, making every line an unexpected blend of shades. Plus, they’re perfect for museums where only dry media are allowed—compact, clean, and a joy to use! Here is my set.

Children’s Paint Sticks

For bold colors and vibrant energy, nothing beats children’s paint sticks. I used them to sketch the famous Palais Royal metro station in Paris. The thick, creamy texture glides effortlessly over the paper, creating strong lines and rich color fields. And the best part? Your hands stay perfectly clean thanks to the clever stick design—no mess, all fun! Here is my set.

Honey-Based Watercolors

This charming no-name honey watercolor set brought a sweet simplicity to my sketch of an Art Nouveau hotel in Paris. The colors blend easily and feel lighter and more fluid than professional paints, making the whole process relaxing and carefree. It’s a great reminder that sometimes art should be about having fun rather than chasing perfection.

No-Name Watercolor Set

I took these paints to Venice and captured the beautiful San Simeon Piccolo church. Compared to the honey watercolors, this set felt a bit more opaque and even included white pigment, allowing for stronger highlights and contrasts. The result was a vivid and atmospheric sketch with rich reflections on the water. Off course professional watercolors are better for serious works or for sale.

Working with children’s materials reminded me that creativity isn’t about the price tag or fancy tools—it’s about the joy of making something with your own hands. So, don’t hesitate to grab those simple supplies and start creating—your inner child will thank you!
