Lets start with a little history about this amazing town. Kutna Hora was founded in the 13th century. It was the center of the medieval silver mining industry, regarded as the 2nd richest in the Czech Kingdom. The silver mines were the reason for the formation of the first mining villages. One of them named “Cuthna Antiqua” which means old monastic robe.
According to the legend one monk fell asleep on the hill and saw in his dream a silver bars. When he woke up, he found the silver bars in the place of his dream and marked the place with his robe.
Kutna Hora became the site of the first “silver rush” in Europe. Around the mines appeared shacks, taverns, baths, shops, etc. Then the villages united and Kutna Hora received the privileges of a royal city. Former name of Kutna Hora was Kuttenberg.
